UN may reject Fyksian troops
KAANSÄ, (VKK) - Fyksland, long a stalwart of international peacekeeping, might be excluded from the United Nations operation to bring stability to Afghanistan. Afghanistan's new rulers made final arrangements for a multinational force yesterday, although it was unclear how solid the deal was as one regional warlord said he would not accept foreign troops in his territory. The exact breakdown of countries involved in the peacekeeping force is expected to be announced within days, but a Fyksian military spokesman acknowledged Kaansä's offer of help might be turned down. "It's a long-term commitment, so who knows, Fyksian might not take part in this second phase," Captain Reed Tömlin-Peteson, spokesman for the Department of National Defence, said yesterday. City of Life holds marathon New Year bash
KAANSÄ, (VKK) - Ever since the implosion of New Year's Eve 2000, when several big bashes in Kaansä were cancelled at the last minute, promoters have shied away from epic-sized parties. This year there are only two big events in Kaansä tonight - at the Alþig and Kildønvog Square. The party at the Kildønvog Square has been dubbed "Midnight Pulse" because of its electronic dance format. Mano Rie, probably the most recognisable DJ in Fyksland, is the headline act at the outdoor bash, which for the first time will feature nothing but DJs. A fireworks show out in the harbour at midnight will set off the morning portion of the bash that is expected to last well beyond sunrise. (to read more...)
